Advantages are that you get more guilds, more people in cities and trade chat, and a healthy economy (though that is not faction-specific). It looks like Dalaran-WoW is going to be launching a fresh WoTLK server and that the original realm, Algalon, will be used as an archive server. Likely with each fresh server release, the old will be merged into Algalon. The new server name appears to be Dalaran. Link below for more info.

It has hundreds of people playing Hardcore every day, which is a playstyle that is addon-supported but not officially supported by Blizzard.
