BigGrayGolem Sep 4, 2022 @ 6:17am. They certainly appear rare to me. After encountering probably ~ 30 or more sentinel towers, I finally found one with a royal tool. I grabbed it, but TBH, it's just sort of cosmetic. I'm not thrilled that they look like little exotic ships, which seems a little on-the-nose.
I think I have found 15 or 16 including one tiger squid. The spawn rate is exactly 1:301, 0.332%. Squid exotics will be the exotic in 1:20 systems. The statistics I did on exotic spawn rates point to 0.25% (1/400) across all inhabited systems. I've visited other planets and was easily able to find all the underground creatures there, but not on my home planet. Go to glitched planets. Only 1 species, usually easy to find. The last rare underwater creature is usually one of those big ones found in the open ocean. Could also be one of the disappearing crabs near the shoreline. Rate underground fauna are the absolute hardest to locate in my experience. You are best off looking for building sites that intersect a cave, providing a large "outside" cave area.
