Estoc, definitely. Even with a quality build, the spear's AR is never really going to be high enough to warrant its slower attack speed. You'll end up killing mob enemies in, say, 3 hits, the same number it would take with the estoc. And the estoc will do it much faster, with a much shorter delay between combos.

Bait out the running attack seems to be your best bet. Otherwise you are looking at run into their face and parry which will be backstab bait for anyone with half a brain. Best to bait out the running r1 for the predictive first hit parry or abort. Otherwise you might be taking more damage than you need to.
